Athletes and Twitter

Athletes are fined everyday for what they say to the press or for what they do. But fining them for tweets that they post on their twitter accounts...is this fair? Do you believe athletes should be punished for voicing their opinion? It is understandable to be fined for "tweeting" during their game, but to be fined for something they say outside of the game...that's debatable.

  1. I don't think athletes should be punished for voicing their opinion. There not doing anything harmful, or wrong..there just voicing their opinion. Being fined for tweeting during a game is understandable, because you should be focused on the game and not on twitter. Things said outside an athletic sport is different, and they shouldn't be punished.

  2. I don't think its fair that they're fined for what they say outside of a game, its their private life they should be able to say what they want like everyone else.

  3. I don't that is fair because everybody has the right to voice their opinion; weather there an Athlete or not. The second point I have is that what the athlete does or the playing field is there personal and private time. That's their life getting fined because of voicing their just voicing there opinion; is wrong and should not be done. So if the athletes are getting fined than why aren't the pop stars getting fined for voicing there opinion on twitter. Really; this is the United States of America "land of the free and the home of the brave" [The star spangled banner]

  4. I don't think it is fair that athletes get fined for what they say on twitter. Yes they are respected athletes that people look up to, but off of their playing field they are just another individual and have the right to say what they want.

  7. I believe that athletes should be able to say whatever they want to when they are off the field, but during a game it should not be allowed. What they do on their own time when not at a game or practice is their choice to do or say what they want to.

  8. The athletes should be able to talk or tweet about whatever they want as long as they aren't saying something that is hurtful. Athletes are people too and should be able to voice their opinion.

  9. Wow that is rediculous. If they weren't athletes and they posted on twitter no one would care. They shouldn't be fined, it's not fair. Everyone should be able to write whatever they want without the worries of being fined for it. There is a thing called freedom of the press.

  10. Yes, if it is during the game a fine is understandable. But if you fine the player for saying something on their own time, that is just taking it too far.

  12. I think that if a player has an opinion, he or she should be able to say it. Not during a game, but outside i think they should be free to do whatever they would like.
